Dutch Foreign Minister Bert Koenders has asked EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini to hold an emergency EU foreign ministers’ meeting on the situation in Turkey, where a military coup attempt was staged.

BRUSSELS (Sputnik) – Earlier, Mogherini said on Twitter that she was in constant contact with the EU delegation in Ankara and Brussels.

"FM #Koenders requested @FedericaMog to call for #FAC emergency meeting on #Turkey: call for restraint & respect for democratic institutions," the Dutch Foreign Ministry said on its official Twitter account.
