"The Soviet Union faced the most powerful assaults by the Nazis, but there is no force, and there will be no force, that could conquer our people," Russian President Vladimir Putin said in remarks at the event. Smaller-scale parades known as the Immortal Regiment took place across Russia and the world to commemorate the more than 25 million Russian men and women who died in the Second World War.
